Hi Googleguy,
Sorry to but in like this but I just have to ask you a question
about your googlebot and some irregularities it has been showing
recently.
My site has been recently crawled (says Sept 20th 2002) but all
it shows in the search results is;
"This site is under construction and will be available soon"

My site hasn't been down at all over the last few days but was
down for a short period about a month ago.
When search results show a date, does it not mean that that was
the date the googlebot visited?

Thanks and sorry if this is the 1000th time you've been asked
this question.

That's most bizarre because my access log shows
a fully functional server on the 20th of September
with no googlebot visit at all.
Will I have to wait for the next crawl to correct
this problem?

the date you mentioned is the date of crawling. Only sites that google considers with content frequently changing or of great importance have the date next at the right. In my case it means that google visit my pages with date at right every day!

Is it PageRank related, my site has a lot more re-freshes this month than last. And for more pages.

I had an odd little Google experience this week. Pages from a crawl about the 15th or 16th showed up on the morning on the 20th in the Google index (I noticed because searchers came to my site from these searches) then disappeared late afternoon on the 20th. The results showed a date of sep. 19.
I sure hope thee pages reappear in the sep update as the position was great.

That's freshness here, the update will leave them in permanently.

thanks Martin, I sure hope it does leave them in permanently as in the few hours they were there I got a number of visitors searching for these keywords (popular area). There's no difference I can see on www3 as opposed to www yet.
I'm guessing the update will start next week - I dunno if it ever starts on the weekends, as recently it has started mid-week but been more or less settled over the weekend.
