Purposely trying to steer the spiders to areas you really want indexed and that you really would like to have higher PR and get more traffic to? My site has a good deal more pages than a lot of other sites I see who also manage to achieve a much better PR on their internal pages than I, even though we have the same index page PR. (Same 1-10 decimal number, obviously probably way different within that one integer range). They seem to achieve that higher internal page PR by deep linking from 1) not having a whole slew of pages to spread the PR around to (I think this contributes) and 2) by deep linking to those internal pages from other sites (their own, but thats a different story).

There are some of my pages that I wouldn't want to lose all together as they do benefit my visitors (a few of them anyway) and all together make a better experience for the User (thats what its all about right?) but, even if I were ranked #1 for them I doubt they'd bring in a whole lot of traffic.

I guess thinking about it more, this is kind of a no-brainer and a good link strategy naturally lends itself to this. OTOH, even with a nice tree/pyramid link structure, I'd definitely have to say that some of the leaves, though on the same level in the tree logically are greatly more important than others! Would it make sense to somehow attempt to steer the bot to these more important ones, I wonder, even at the expense of having less overall pages listed.

Quick Note:

You really have to be careful how aggressively you pursue PR. You may feel that some pages are eligible for blocking, such as privacy policy. However, one of my client’s is getting fairly good rankings in some of the SERPS. So do I block that page and loose the possible traffic generated by something as simple as the privacy policy (once they’re on the site, they’re on the site) just to “possibly” up my PR a little.

This relates back to the big question of “how really important is PR anway?”

Re-examine the link structure of the site. You may want to remove some links from the higher PR pages and index page. Use the lower page to target 3 and 4 word phrases.
Try and get deep links. Yahoo is great for this.

Could you expand on this?

.....I should have checked the spelling and structure before I posted.
Corrected:
Use the lower pages to target 3 and 4 word phrases.
(new paragraph)
Try and get deep links. Yahoo is great for this.

"Lower pages" refers to pages with a lower value than the index page. EG: index=Pr4, 30 pages into the site, Pr will be about Pr3.

Target less competitive Keywords with these pages that have a lower PR value. 3 and even 4 word phrases will produce referrals.

Yahoo will list subdirectories of sites(after you pay of course). This is deep linking.

Thanks for the clarification.

Let me make sure I'm completely clear on what you're sharing...

Yahoo is great for this.

Yahoo will list subdirectories of sites(after you pay of course). This is deep linking.

Do you mean:

a) Paying an additional $299 to have Yahoo index additional pages from your site.

or...

b) It's possible to get Yahoo to deep link additional pages once you've paid your initial BizEx fee for your root domain.

Dante_Maure, thanks for asking. I wonder how many people have the same question but, didn't ask.

"a) Paying an additional $299 to have Yahoo index additional pages from your site."
