safe to use?

It's a Windows app, and there's no privacy policy on the site; not a readme file in the archive, either: just a self-extracting "setup.exe". What do we know about what it really does? Personally I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole until the thing has been properly scrutinized by reverse-engineering (Brett? I know you just love this kind of stuff ;) ).

But even letting aside (paranoid?) concerns about security/privacy etc., I would be very, very careful about using a tool that sends hundreds of concurrent queries to Google anyway.

You cannot harm a competitors site + Google could ban the IP of the searcher (thats you) - anyway, it's not nice is it? ;)

"You cannot harm a competitors site"

Please.

Perhaps in Googletopia this is true.

The land where you are impervious to attacks from cut-throat competitors with no scruples, every search query leads to perfectly relevant results from only quality sites, and PageRank cannot be manipulated in any way.

A spectacular vision and I applaud Google for aspiring to it.

I also happen to think they're doing a damn good job in realizing their goals, and I'm sure they'll keep getting better all the time.

That being said, let's get real.

PageRank has, can, and does get manipulated.

Not every search result is relevant or of high quality.

*and* I have absolutely no doubt that if your competitors are creative, ruthless, and sleazy enough they can and will harm your site... at least temporarily.

Two current threads are prime examples of this very thing:

[webmasterworld.com...]
[webmasterworld.com...]

In the first thread GoogleGuy says this:

"Hi Navy, we have lots of safeguards to protect you in these cases. Just because somebody bad links to you, you won't be penalized."

Once again, I applaud Google on their stance in such matters... but no safegaurd is foolproof. Otherwise SEO spam would not exist at all.

Innovation is unfortunately not the sole domain of those seeking to provide a good service... it is equally available to those looking to exploit weaknesses in an existing system for their own personal gain.

Welcome to the real world. :-)

i agree with you dante.

if i would link to my competitors as 'nice dressed humans' on much pages ;) i know they rank higher for that searchterm, but it they must rank lower on other search-terms.

i do not beleive you can have infinit keywords thay you show up with.

but i also beleive Google is fixing things all the time.
Tricks that work today might not work tomorrow.
And that is eventually a good thing, we need clean results.
