Two different Cache - Same Page

Google toolbar vs. SERP

I'm to receive two different cache for the same page:
1) Using the Google toolbar
2) Using the SERP
What is the difference? Which one does look at when it serves up the SERP?

dvduval - might that just be the difference seen by many here which comes from changing back and forth between older and newer versions?
Do you always get the same cached version when refreshing just from the serp?
