:) I'm just not sure how you all figure out that you are a PR4 or something on your pages. Is there a tool or something? Is it just domain level or specific to the pages within your site? It would be neat to see how well I'm optimizing our pages

You have to download the Google toolbar:

[toolbar.google.com ]

Welcome to the board, socks.

It's by the page. Generally most links to a site go to the homepage, so that will usually have the highest Page Rank. Then, the internal pages of the site get Page Rank from being linked to from the homepage.

If there are links to any of the interior pages, they get a PR boost from those, which will increase the PR value of whichever pages they link to.

A link is like a vote for a page that increases its PR, depending on the value of the page being linked from. A vote from a high PR page is worth more than a vote from a low PR page.

You don't actually have to download the toolbar if you just want to find out the page rank of your homepage. If your site is listed in the Google directory, just type in www.yoururl.com in the search box and that will take you to your google listing. Click on the link to the "category" and beside your listing, you will notice a bar with green and grey.

The rank is based on ten. You can tell the approximate page rank by how long the green bar is.For instance, if it is half green and half grey, then you have an approximate PR of 5.

(added) We Mac users can't download the toolbar ... yet! ;)
