Should Google Cache disable popups?

Kind of annoying to view a cached page and get a bunch of popups

This would be a cool value add for users (imo), and maybe even increase the stickiness that G gains by having the cache.

Then again it might annoy more webmasters into specifying no cache, or it may turn more of them against Google's caching in general.

I personally have no problem with them caching my pages.

Just a thought. It would of course take some parsing of the jscript on all pages, something which is currently thought that at least googlebot doesn't do at all. (IIUC)

That sure would makin' surfin' for porn and illegal software much more easy. (Aren't these the only things that actually use popups anymore?:)

I also think that G's terms of service actually warn against popups anyhow doesn't it?

I wonder if the owners of such sites might take offense at essentially serving their data minus their revenue generators?

(FYI, not my line of business :-)

yeah..thats what I was trying to get at...

Seems like it might even be a good idea for them to just remove all jscript from the cached source.. dunno though.. just thinking out loud :)

[cynicism]I suppose such a move would certainly bump up the traffic on google by all those porn hungry folks though[/cynicism]

This thread had nothing to do with pron, really. :) I see a lot of pop-ups in other areas as well. (Not so many browser-take-over/multiple pop-up/under after pop-up, but still, one is annoying). One common example is "sign up for our newsletter", or "check out this special promotion". Why does it keep turning to pron?

I just thought that as some browsers "enhance" your surfing experience by killing pop-ups, maybe Google could too for its cached pages.

That said, I "hear" that most of the TGP pages don't have pop-ups .. :)

Although it does sound like a good idea in theory, the idea of google disecting anyone's code doesn't sound like a very appealing idea to me. As you said, serving up the all the content with none of the profit doesn't sound very fair either. As a user, I love the idea of no more mini camera ad popunders.....but in defense of those who are paid to perpetuate the propogation of porn I think we'd be better of if we didn't encourage the idea.
