"COMING VERY SOON"

Is this a new feature?

I just ran a search in Google to see if a recently submitted site had appeared in the index yet.

When I searched for "domainname.com" (without inverted commas) I got a "COMING VERY SOON" message which is hyperlinked to the site in question.

Is this a new feature where Google confirms that the site has been crawled and will appear in the next update? I have never seen this before... it was a pleasant surprise.

Was that the title of the site about a month ago?

Not likely.

Probably it's a standard file that the host or owner puts up once an account and domain is set up until the owner puts up the actual site.

If the host has a "clients" page with links to the site, Google will have crawled it through that link - has happened with two of my sites on two different hosts.

duh....

This is one of those "how can I have been that stupid" scenarios. The site at time of original crawl must have had a title of "COMING VERY SOON". Hence the entry showing in Google's search results.

In the meantime a totally different site has been loaded to the domain and this is what threw me off the aparatus.

Standing in corner wearing pointy hat, chanting:

Think first, type later
Think first, type later
Think first, type later
Think first, type later
Think first, type later
Think first, type later

*chuckle* you wouldn't be the first..

And it is a good thing - at least you know Google has found the site, and will almost certainly be back next month with the actual site in the SERPs. Beats waiting month after month to get found.
