Using Additional Domain Names For Your Site

Is there a penalty or what should I avoid?

If I have a website (www.xyz.com) and I buy a domain name (www.xyz-for-sale.com) and use it to drive business to the main site (not thru redirecting but with a page whose main links return to www.xyz.com), will this be a problem? Am I tempting fate and will I be subject to a PR0?

For this to work you have to have PR associated with the pointing site and it would be very difficult to get decent PR (eg via ODP) for a site that would be seen clearly as doing what you have propose. Simply not worth the effort IMHO.

Your time/money would be much better spent on producing content on the original site and trying to get inbound links to that.
