Another newbie level question

Sorry to be such a neophyte at this but:

How does google handle home pages that are framed. My index page doesn't have the content obviously, it's the pages that fill the frames with the items and descriptions and all the content. Will that page be indexed or do I need to try a different design style?

Hi Willie Wonka,

You could fill the NOFRAMES tag of your frameset with goodies (links and text) but the best option would be to "flatten" the site.

If your frames get in the index, they will be clicked on by potential visitors as independant pages. Without the navigation devices around. This will result in short visits...

Of course there are a couple of workarounds, but it involves a lot of work. I use to be a big frames fan. Not anymore. Avoid them if possible.

avoid those thar frames at all cost they cause quite a few problems. One of the most serious ones is a page appearing out of context and the user cannot get anywhere as there is no navigation present.

You can use java to work around this but it is not super easy. You also have issues with ramming your noframes tag, the page can slow down for one. You cannot fill the no frames with all your information either. So another work around is it to have multiple framesets for different areas of the site. But after you have buggered around with all of these sorts of things you could have flattened site and still made it to the pub.

I don't use frames, but I have some test pages. The noframes content seems to be downgraded for some time now. PageRank seems to flow better via frame src than by links in noframes.

I'm with MacGuru and ukgimp. It's much better to avoid frames.
