Dropped site. Why?

Have taken over a site that is dropped. What to do?

I've just taken over a website <snip> after the previous provider went to the wall. Although the site has multiple incoming links, and is a fairly large website that has been going for some years. It is not listed in google (anymore). I suspect that the site has been dropped for some reason, but I am not sure why.

How can I find out why google no longer lists this site, and what, if anything can I do about it?

There are a few reasons for a missing site, but I suspect that you've changed the hosting provider, and thus the IP address of the site?

If so, it seems most likely that Google is still trying to index the site on the old server. This will fix itself after a while (hopefully next update).

Search engines need to visit huge numbers of domains each month, so they tend to cache DNS for much longer than browsers or ISP proxies.

I have a similar situation, but can be fairly certain that being dropped from Google had nothing to do with switching IPs. So I guess the question is still pending. When Google drops you, how can you find out, what are the possible reasons, and what can you do to get back in?

I took over a site the previous owner was abandoning, it was out of the ODP, out of Yahoo, and Google had a cache of the sort of screen you get with a parked domain. That was the end of January. I did the ordinary optimisation things, and I'm now well placed for some key words, and ahead of the best known competitor for "New Zealand keyword combo" where keyword combo is what both our sites are about.
