Ranking in the SERPs

Is it based on PageRank or Quality Links?

Hii,

One of my sites ( a niche directory , not the one listed in my profile, though ), got listed this time and i got a PR of 5.
I am not yet included in DMOZ, but the submission is done. Based on the feedback i got at resource-zone,it could take a while for the DMOZ inclusion.

Now if my site gets included in dmoz, how much will my PR jump ??

Another thing is,...ranking of my site in the serps..is it based on PR or the quality links back to your site..??

Thanks for the help
Cheers

Hi

Dmoz is a valuable link... but I think it's biggest value is over time, as more 'wannabe' directories download the database and give you automatically another link. This must add up over the months, and if one or two of these wannabe's do well you benefit from their pr and traffic.

The link from dmoz also depends which category you are in, and the pr from that page.

PR is based on quality and number of links in... so both. But then, even with high pr, your site needs to have relevancy for the search term used, so then all the other seo factors kick in. PR alone does not give you good ranking for your chosen keywords.

I've just put a construction holding page online for a client and in the lastest update it's gone straight in at number one

So I would say

Quality and number of links, in my clients example all relavent linked to 4 other sites all with PR5 the new site now has a PR4

Domain, his 2 main keywords are the domain read this [webmasterworld.com...]

Hii,

Thanks for the replies.
I understand the importance of DMOZ listing, i believe the category to which i submitted is heaven for inappropriate submissions.

Yeah, I noticed in the SERPs that some sites which has higher PR value were listed below than those that have quite less, but they had good quality linkbacks. I should work on that.

It is based on both, as well as many other factors. Greater PR will improve your ranking. On page keyword optimization will improve your ranking. Keywords in the link-text pointing at your page will improve your ranking (this combined with a high PR from the external page is what I would define as a "quality link").
