Its Too Soon - How much time

Ok so we all know that after the updates, comes the crawl.
So how long after the dance starts do you have to finish that new site you are going crazy doing? Must make it in, do I put it in early with about 25% still left to do or do I have a few days of cushion?

From what ive seen last 3 updates its more likely that the crawl is just before the update.

Starts hitting our sites within 48 hours after we first notice changes on www2 and www3.

We have had the crawl across our sites for the last couple of days; i.e. well before the update started.
