I have been reading over the last few days about PR , my page has a PR of 4 at the moment. Would this increase if I added the 'Google Search Box' to my page?
Any other clues would be appreciated

No, that wouldn't help increase your PageRank. PR is nothing more than a measure of the links leading to each page of your site. The way to increase it is to get more links, or links from pages that themselves have good PageRank (and, ideally, few other outbound links).

Would the inclusion of Google Search help in the "discovery" of a new website by the Googlebot?

I would really doubt the search box has any effect on anything. The Googlebot will discover you soon enough with a few inbound links.
There is no advantage as far as PR is concerned to be gained from using the search box. PR is primarily the quality of inbound links to your website.
