Hi All,

Great Forum and this is my first post. I run a site <snip> (see url in profile). We are listed in DMOZ, Yahoo and several quality sites.

We used to be listed quite high till about June 2002. In the middle of June we did couple of things -

* Moved to a dedicated server with a different IP address
* Modified home page to add categorized links at the bottom og the page

and ever since strange things are happening at Google and I do not know the exact reason.

* When I search for "<my business name>", I get the page /index.asp and NOT the default site

* However, Few times this month when I searched "<my business name>" the site was shown *WITHOUT* index.asp at the end (as other sites)

* Google category (DMOZ category) link and description is missing

* googlebot regularly indexes many pages in my site

* We have variations of <our(-)domainname(s).com> and use <ourdomainname.com> as primary and all others have a "noindex, follow"

* We *DO NOT* use any rank check programs and are NOT involved in any link farms

* links:URL shows nothing and www.URL says site not found

Please analyze our site and let me know what is going on.

Thanks
Webmaster

I am not sure what the problem is . Toolbar is grey for your site. Maybe you are penalised by google.
I will suggest to email google asking for help.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, 123.

Your toolbar is grayed out, evidently your site dropped out of the Google index, probably it's nothing more than that, it should be back with the coming update.

Your site is in Dmoz OK, complete with description, and has been since Nov. 2001. Link from Dmoz to your sited does work.

That's because there are links to /index.asp I might guess that more links, or the higher PageRank links, point at that address.

> * However, Few times this month when I searched "<my business name>" the site was shown *WITHOUT* index.asp at the end (as other sites)

Changes like this are normal while Google is updating, or if it gives you a 'fresh' listing (usually because of high PageRank or DMoz/Yahoo! inclusion.

> * Google category (DMOZ category) link and description is missing

That is normal if the address in the Open Directory is different from the address in Google search.

> * links:URL shows nothing

This is normal if your links are from pages with low PageRank (approximaely less than PR4).

> and www.URL says site not found

But presumably it lists the site when you search for he /index.asp address that's in Google?
