I have seen some top sites on google have a backward link to google. Is this actually valuable? I would think it would slightly decrease my PR.

Whats more interesting is some of the sites I have seen backward link to google including a query string made of their keywords. (as if a user performed a search on google). Is this done to boost the PR of the google results page which they are on? Therefore, boosting their own PR? What I have seen google results pages have no PR so why even bother with this?

Hello Rub, welcome to Webmaster World. I think what you are seeing are attempts at influencing rankings or they could just be plain ole' bragging links. Either way, I don't think they have any effect whatsoever on PR or ranking.

I could be wrong since I've not had adequate time to test any theories. I don't want to either, it could be easily misconstrued as an attempt at artificially inflating your PR or influencing the ranking of your site, don't want to travel down that path these days! ;)

Without commenting on why people might do those things, I'm pretty sure that neither helps.
