Finding PR without GoogleBar

Recently I switched ISPs and noticed my GoogleBar no longer displays PR for sites, likely do to my ISP using a non-GoogleBar-compatible proxy.

Is there any other method of determining a site's PR? Any API's, web sites that just list the top PR's ... etc.?

I know in the Google directory there is a graphic that shows a site's PR -- but it has to be in their directory and I don't believe the graphic tells you a specific number, incl. on mouse-over.

Any info would be appreciated.

Since no-one else has answered, I'll have a go.

Just read the bar graph in the Google Directory as if it was numbered 0 to 10. It's not actually
numbered that way - it's more like 0 to 7, but both the Google Directory bar graph and the Google
Toolbar bar graph are only rough estimates anyway.

Here's a very rough comparison (I hope the formatting works here, use a wide screen):


0.........1.........2.........3.........4.........5.........6.........7 Directory
0......1......2......3......4......5......6......7......8......9......10 Toolbar

You can tell by looking at the pos.gif. Right click on the green - and make sure you look at pos.gif not neg.gif.

I am sorry I haven't updated this - I have been busy, but it still has the pos.gif numbers in it (except for google.com):

Is there any way to break PR down to parts of a number???

exapmle PR=5.5 when toolbar shows 5????

how would you find this out?

Not really,

sometimes you can make a guess by looking at the directory and toolbar.

For example:

[directory.google.com...]

has 21 companies with a directory PR of 6.

Now these fall into a toolbar PR of 7-8-9.

www.maid-plc.com

is probably a high 8 - as it falls above several other 8s on the list - and is just below a 9.

Follow what I am saying?

If you are wondering if google sends a more accurate PR to the toolbar - they don't - people have posted the stuff that gets transmited in xml and it shows the same number we see.

Of course google knows, but the 0 - 10 isn't what they use anyway - they use numbers from 1 meaning average to numbers in the thousands...

Excelent thought. So you can almost work out a scale based on the comparison between PR in the directory and PR on the toolbar.

It's been a while since I've checked but I think the data is still accurate. Hope that's what you're looking for.
