Hi folks,

dance is coming nearer and I found an interessting article in a paper webpage (not long ago known as magazine):

"Spektrum der Wissenschaft" issue 07/2002:

Interview with Monika Henzinger, head of reasearch @ google...

The question you are interessted in most:

spectrum: How do you check, if the listed pages still exist?

henzinger: Every 28 days we update the INDEX, which is the list of words which contains every page that has this word in it.

spectrum: How complicated is this indexing?

henzinger: Very! It takes about a week to re-index.

me: I tried my best to translate....

cheers!

Which is pretty much what we know about Google. It looks to me the more accurate statement would be Google reindexes about every 30 days on average. As for that part about how long does this take, I presume that means the length of what we call the "Google Dance". The Google Dance seems to last a little less than a week, but I guess from a marketing persepctive it sounds better to make it sound like a full week of hard work by Google. ;)

rfgdxm1, yeah, I know, too.
this contribution was nothing more than another official source, there is a lot of guessing around this time of the month. the last dance ended for me on the 27th of June, so dancing time would be coming thursday for me. that would make a perfect 28 days.

According to the FAQ on this site, the last time the Google Dance started was 1300h on 23 June 2002. If Google keeps the usual schedule (and, in March they didn't, so who knows), the dance should begin in the next day or two. Does anyone have any data on how long the dances have lasted over the last year? 4 days seems more typical to my memory than a full week.
