Due to the fact that my ISPs newsgroup server has been down for a couple of days, I've been using GoogleGroups and noticed something this morning. GoogleGroups PR registers as 9 in my toolbar.

Now, for a long time I've included my URL in my usenet sigline, just because. Now I'm wondering if we're picking up PR off GoogleGroups (which of course would be a Good Thing) Opinions?

Yes, many of us think you do, but please don't let it get around ;)

Although if you drill down to any of the groups, the toolbar is greyed out, so no PR there.

Anywhere on the net you can inject a url, there is value.

Snippet from the www.google.com/robots.txt

User-agent: *
Disallow: /search
Disallow: /groups

This means that the groups section isnīt spidered.

Brett - I agree and I always use a sig myself where possible. But I thought the specific question was about the possibility of obtaining some PR from GoogleGroups postings. Not in my opinion.

You wont get any PageRank from posting a URL in Google groups, since Google doesnīt spider them.
