The next update date: 21st July?

Does this sound right "Google Dance begins 21st July?", the chart on webmasterworld seems to point to this date as the next possible start date. Are there any rules as to when the dance may begin?

I appreciate your humor, Dpeper, and will applaud Google if they take it in stride for a couple of days. Maybe Google can even supply us with their own button.

In these ugly times of planes flying into tall buildings, young Palestineans strapping bombs to themselves to kill women and children, Israelis retaliating with more deaths, murderers killing our innocent children, nuclear showdowns threatening the whole planet, and big brother invading our lives like never before ... a little humor is a breath of fresh air.

A real short trip, even shorter if a woman is driving the vehicle :)

hehe.. jatar_k, it didn't take you long to agree with me on that :)

We should verify our numbers, though. Is it 30 posts that gets the dance to start, or 30 threads? Figure 30 threads waiting for it to start, with an average of 30 posts per thread...

That's too high for me to count, is there a programmer around who's got a subroutine handy to add that up for us?

errr 900 maybe, we haven't even come close to appropriate panic levels yet for the shifting to begin.

I vote for next Weds, July 24th. That's the full moon. Maybe Google uses the Farmers Alamnac to plan their update schedule. :)

the problem is that we need 30 unique members to post, multiple posts by the same user dont count.... ;)

I suppose just waiting till it starts is out of the question ;)

It would be nice if we could *actually* (no i don't have faith in the dance button:)) initiate the dance.

Nice thought

I just jumpedt to the last page of this thread.....are we talking about a google update? :)

Usually an update hapens 2 or 3 days after google guy appears....so maybe the recent thread about the 2nd half of 2002 has something in between the lines ;)

Googlebot Googlebot,
do your dance!
Googlebot Googlebot,
we await your prance!
webmasters groan,
and webmasters cry,
as thier PR sinks lower or high.
webmasters moan,
and webmasters sigh,
as the googlebar grays before thier eyes.
Googlebot, Googlebot,
Do your dance!

Weblamer...now if we just had a little appropriate music and of course the requisite sacrifice to go along with it :).

I can see it now webmasters around the world chanting in unison as some poor animal's blood is offered to a unix box.

......I'm just kiddin folks...I think

Folks - lets put it in neutral and wait patiently for the update. Until then, these "almost frivolous" posts are starting to effect the system.

We really need to raise the post quality back up there to the point that built this forum. Please help us do that before this forum becomes noise.

If you want to help out, pick out some threads that you feel confident answering and pitch in. We have alot of new users around here the last few months and we could use some help getting questions answered in other forums too.

Googlebot snagged my daily horoscope page today and left.

Wisenutbot and openbot both hit and ate two of my sites today! At least some engines like me :)

Well the "dirty old goat" took several thousand pages from one of our new client sites today, but it isn't a high PR site (No PR atm), which is most confusing. The site should be appearing in the current update for the first time. This is the second complete spidering of the site, and it is yet to appear in any SERPs.

Googlebot has also been taking about 20 pages per day from another site for the last week or so.

Strange behaviour indeed.

Abrexa_UK: same here, google came (again) today and took around 200 pages within a few hours. now there is silence again. I do hope that the PR of that site goes up from 4 to 6, btw.
And another weired thing is that of a complete new site was indexed first in the 29th week and is now online with the index page...

and now: waiting for the dance :-)

Same here. Googlebot showed up, snagged a few hundred pages, and then sprinted away.

BTW: googlebot is a 'she'?

Damn. 82 individual visits by the Googlebot today. No wonder my traffic numbers are so high!

Is this perhaps a sign of a re-index to come?? I hope so, I've nearly doubled the size of the site in the past few months. :-)

Take care,

Brian
