Over the past few weeks I have noticed that Google has dropped a lot of the descriptions for PDF files, leaving just a link to the PDF. I have check many factors such as links to the PDFs, page ranking, security of the PDF etc, however I cannot find a common cause. I have also noticed that other sites, such as Adobe seem to be suffering from the same problems. Does anybody have any answers ?

Thanks JTL

I was talking a couple weeks ago with another moderator about the phenom. We couldn't see that it was related to any type of penalty or problem. I think they were just clearing db space. Have two or more links on your site going to the same pdf. If you can get some inbound links that link to the pdf, so much the better. I also think that the pr of the page that the link to the pdf is pretty significant.

Ours that were dropped just had one link to them from the site on a minor pr page.

Hi Brett_Tabke
Over the past week or so I have noticed google has come back and indexed a lot of my pdf’s again and found a lot of the newer ones as well, but I have yet to see the results of whether it has indexed them fully and if there will be a description underneath the results in google. I have just recently change the linking structure to the pdf hoping that it would entice googlebot in taking another look, so I think what you said about having more than one link seems to be accurate in my case anyway. I have also noticed there seems to be 3 different sets of results for pdfs, you either get just the link and that’s it, or the link but it displays the similar pages link underneath, I don’t understand how that can be present if google has not indexed it fully, so why would the description not be there to?
