There have been quite a few threads about regional google percentages, so I've put together a table showing referrals [danny.oz.au] from the major Googles - www.google.com, google.yahoo.com, and 16 of the country Googles. My figures go back to April 2000.

Very interesting....

We have a site totally UK relevant and find with reference to people using .co.uk only about 30% use the 'uk sites only' option.

Our figures for the last few days are :
2117 www.google.com
1204 www.google.co.uk

(Bear in mind we get better rankings for 'uk sites only', hence more than 30% referrals)

We reckon that most people prefer the world search and instead of clicking the UK sites button put "UK" on the end of their search. This probably is the case for other countries as well.

it is posible that some users think they are searching for UK sites simply by being on the google uk page. posibly just go to page type query and click search and not even notice the check box for uk sites.

Mack
I never under estimate how stupid people are... I fear you are right. In the UK this would mean that most of the serps are US biast for many searches, hence the often heard saying "...but I can never find relevant information on the internet..."

Personally I would prefer that google defaults to 'UK sites only' on google.co.uk

I totaly agree , surely this makes more sence... even AV got it right (sort of) you go to their uk page and you query the uk index. only thing i hate is when you want to go to the .com page it redirects you to the UK page with "the web" selected..

<mad>that ticks me off</mad>

Hi Mack

Last time I looked at AOL.co.uk with uk sites only clicked (google serps)they were giving automatic priority to .co.uk sites which is a disaster for UK based .com sites. Thought you may be interested in that.....

I dont think it really relied in the domain extension (though I may be wrong ) I think it works along geograohic location of the host server)through dns track does anyone have a full answer for this???

Google picks up domain name ending and/or server location through ip address to find 'UK sites only'

AOL seem to put a further filter on the google serps they recieve to make it .co.uk domains only which is crazy.

I wonder how popular an Australian Google would be if there was one? I'm guessing it would be second, behind only Canada.
