Adding Products to Site

What's the best way of approaching this?

I'm currently working on a site that sells Product A. But the client wants to add Products B to Z to his store. Even though there will be a lot more products added to the site, Product A will still be the primary focus.

Currently, the store is totally optimized for Product A. It does very well in Product A related searches. It has DMOZ/Yahoo listings that focus on Product A.

Here are my options:

- Create a new domain dedicated to Products B to Z. Get new DMOZ/Yahoo listings and SE rankings completely separate from the original domain.

- Just add the products to the site along with Product A.

- Create a subdomain for Products B to Z and cross-link the two.

I'm opting towards the subdomain solution. Creating a new site/domain is too expensive, and adding the products to the site will dilute the theme created around Product A. But will having a subdomain cross-linked from the main one help or hurt my ranking in Google? Also, how should I best approach the cross-linking?

... or is there a better solution? I'm trying to optimize for Google here.

I think your on the right track!

Crosslinking is domain to domain. In the case of a subdomain (a sub directory) this would be simply "linking" for navigation.

Products B to Z can actually help product A increase its ranked position my adding more themed content relevant to the overall theme of your original pages.

Make sure that use a good set of anchor text for links back and forth between products A and B, A and C and so on.
on product A page
(e.g. <a href="productB.html" title="the best description of product B">the best description of product B</a>

on product B page
<a href="productA.html" title="the best description of product A">the best description of product A</a>

Try keeping these short and to the point though.
