Hi,

i have to optimize a site with frames. I plan to crosslink the content pages. Would this help to bring up this side (greater linkpop, use of anchors texts and so on)? Could this be considered as spam?

Thank you,

fiffo from germany

Cross link? As in within the same site? If so, not a problem. Always interlink your related content.

Before doing it, ask yourself a question, will this help my visitors?. If the answer is yes, then there is no reason it should ever be considered a problem by search engines. Consider any optimization aspects of the link afterwards in a way that doesn't detract from site usability.

I've recently been doing this for a largish frame site - and so far it's only helping. I'd suggest that you keep all your cross-linking sensible for a human user and everything should be fine. <added> posting at the same time, Brett! LOL!</added>

I discovered in some recent user studies we did that this particular framed site gives users "tunnel vision" - that is, they stop looking at the nav sections and focus their attention only on the content frame. If they have no choices on the content page, they feel like they're at a dead end even though they "could" use the navigation frames.

So we're focusing our cross linking on improving the user's experience. A natural benefit so far has been the distribution of PR around the site.
