Need my news updated on Google

Why won't googlebot come out and play?

I have a page of news that I update nearly every day. I've submitted it to PFI for Lycos/Alltheweb and Inktomi and I'm getting good results (and updates). My question is: Is there any way I can get the Googlebot to visit a little more often?

My home page has a PR6 and the news page is PR5.

Could the lack of ability to do this possibly be a weakness for Google? I've always been fan of Google, but this is one area where it seems that either you are a major hub or your out of the game when it comes to news. (I hope I'm wrong and loook forward to your replies.)

I have a similar problem, a few of our sites are all showing caches from May even though thay have been updated daily and other every week.

Will be interesting to see what peoples ideas are.

Possible reasons for frequent spidering:

1. Open Directory or Yahoo! inclusion
2. High PageRank
3. Frequently updated content (does this help?)
5. Use of words like 'news' (I doubt this is a factor)
4. ?

Possible reasons for frequent updating if spidered:

a. Frequently updated content
b. Lack of last-modified header if not frequently updated (not that the Fresh listing does any good)
c. ?

ciml -- thanks but none of those reasons seem to guarantee spidering. Page is identical to above , PR 6 etc.

One of the home pages for example has not been updated in the cache since May !!

Any chance the...
robots visit metatag would help?
having dates on the page?

Will this help? Have you seen this tag?

<META NAME="REVISIT-AFTER" CONTENT="10 Days">

I am not sure how if there are any limits on how frequently you ask the spider to visit or if it will always follow the request.
