Hi,

As the words contained in the links to a site are important, I would appreciate some advice.

Suppose a web design company, with (approved) links on web sites it designed. What would be the best alternative? (' ' is the link)

1. Just the name of the company: web design by 'nameofthecompany'.
2. The keyword included in the link: 'web design by nameofthecompany'.
3. More than one keyword included in the link: 'web design, maintenance and promotion by nameofthecompany'.

In terms of PR, all three transfer the same amount, given the linking page is the same?
In terms of keywords relevance and SERP location, is 3 better than 2?
In terms of branding, it looks to me like 3 gives all visitors a broader idea of the activity of nameofthecompany.

Last question: does changing the style (Bold, or H4/H5) add to the relevance of such a link? I suppose not, but while I'm asking...

Your thoughts and advice?

One accessibility suggestion is, to make sure your link text makes sense when viewed alone (you can use Opera's Ctrl+J to quickly scan all your links). Therefore, I would suggest using "designed by company.com", or "Hosted by Westhost.com" ;).

Thanks Luma! Reading your post, it looks to me like solution 3 makes more sense when viewed alone than 2? Or am I missing something?
