Hi I have a client that wants to start paying for Sponsored links mainly on Google, but also on Yahoo and maybe some others. This is the first time I have a job that justifies doing this because generally my clients are so small. Anyway I have been suggesting that they need to optomoize the site and increase there regular listing, then pursue these paid listings. Does that sound like a good plan. I have heard mixed reviews about these paid listings. I guess I need a crash coarse in paid advertising :)

Thanks any advise would be greatly appreciated!

You moving in the right direction.
You'll need Overture for Yahoo and MSN plus others and Google for Google and AOL.

For the most part they are pretty straight forward, but I suggest you read everything that both engines have on the subject before you begin. It's EXTREMELY important to get it right the first time.

It hasdramatically increase one of our site owners traffic, now he's addicted to it.

FindWhat is another, although I really don't know how popular it really is. There is also Looksmart, but there is alot of negative vibs out there about it.
I know there are a few more, but I am at a loss right now. I'm sure some one else will help me out here.

I know that we used unpaid results to determine our initial paid strategy - it helped us budget our money wisely. We have hundreds of keywords and our top keywords for one engine don't necessarily work for another one. Unpaid search results helped up figure that out before we threw lots of money into the mix.
