We have a fairly large site and do ok in Google. We change a few url names(i.e. directory names) once in a while, and put in an html redirect under the old name, until Google and others pick up the new location. I am thinking for about 30 days or so.
I don't think this is a problem because it is straight forward and we are not attempting hide anything.

Any see any problems with this?

Nah, not if it is on the same site. In that case, I try to use the same template for all the redirects so that Googlebot picks up the fact that they are duplicate. I also make sure that "Moved" is in the title as the first word. I'd leave them up for 60days though.
