The current philosophy on these pages is that you should write a page a day, every day,and keep it fresh and relevant. Big site - big hits.

A little difficult if you're selling, say, toffee: ingredients of toffee, history of toffee, chemistry of toffee, er... physics of toffee, toffee in literature, dental effects of toffee on teeth, er.... ballistics of toffee when used as a weapon, "sticky as toffee - discuss" er... social history of toffee, Oprah: Toffee made me go mad,

Come on - it might be a robot - but it can't be that stupid! p.s. anyone want some toffee?

Also, consider individual pages on celebrities into toffee (eating it, bathing in it), people who use toffee as hair dressing, toffee with coffee, making a leash of toffee for the dog, etc. And welcome to WebmasterWorld.

Surely you could expand "history of widgets" to include "popular myths of widgets" (now who's to say how popular is popular ;) or maybe "great moments in widgets" (again feel free to be loose and creative with reality :) [obviously being "creative" only in obvious ways that make a good story. For a "history" type site like my own this obviously isn't appropriate!)

Nick,

If you've done everything you can do, and you still aren't number 1...then you haven't done all you can do!

I try to balance the 1 page per day with 10 emails requesting to exchange links.

I'm averaging 30% response...10 e-mails=3 links.

Which, in my book, is as good as 3 pages...

All good answers.

Make sure that all the content you have interlinks to other relevant pages. Make it into a sort of feedback loop:

-> blue widgets -> history of blue widgets -> blud widget specs -> red widget specs -> widget types -> blue widgets....

That accomplishes three major goals: a) for the user, you link to relavent related content on your site, b) makes the site crawlable by spiders, and c) It helps spread out the pr around all those pages.

What that does in effect, is help out those lesser keywords and phrases you would never think to target. You find those rare all star keywords where a good ranking produces a disproportionate number of referrals.

-> prime keyword one 10 referrals a day
-> secondary keyword 5 referrals a day
-> rare allstar "weird" related phrase you aren't targetting: 20 referrals a day

To find more content, just hit one of the keyword lists in your content area. Almost all good keywords will have 100+ related phrases and topic areas. Start at the top of the list, and build a content page about each one.

Same Boat Nick...
the products I sell are pretty self explanatory..the really how much can you say about "whatever" but I am learning that that really is what it takes for google .

The larger problem for me was the "in denial" ..what ? build a page , every day, keep it rlevant etc...
The denial was that I actually have to put that much effort into it ;)

Would'nt it be great if we could just throw a page of products up and the world just stops what it's doing and buys everyday from us..LOL
Hey the sad part is ...deep down you kind of want to believe it can happen !!LOLOLO
Good Luck..
