Should I link to high ranking sites from my home page?

I have heard that it is good to link to a high ranking high PR site from my home page. Link to a directory for example. Is this a good thing to do? Would this increase my PR at all? Thanks!

Outbound links won't affect your pagerank - only inbound links do that. If Google is using Hilltop in it's algorithm, than OBL's to "authority" sites *might* help your site in the serps.

I wouldn't do it from the home page. I would do it from internal content pages, and only where it makes sense from a user's perspective.

seems that the way google does things, if you pursue site development from the perspective of adding value to the user's experience, it'll payoff.
