Why Google drop newer cache and replace with older cache?

Hi,

Recently, I check google's cache of my site, and it shows my page as it's been crawled by googlebot on January 14,2005. Today I check again, at it shows my page that's crawled on January 9, 2004.

My other site even show page that's crawled on January 2, 2004.

My Questions:
1. Why google drop newer cache of my site and replace it with older cache?
2. Is it normal?

Google has been having problems with their cache lately. I have a hunch that you are just hitting a different datacenter that has yet to be updated. I wouldn't worry unless this continues long term.

It's normal. They always have done it this way, ever since they introduced "fresh" crawling.

it means the fresher cache has to stabilize over time

It seems to be happening quite a lot. Often the toolbar cache dates and the ones in the SERPs are different. It does not seem to be anything to worry about.
