How can a site rank #4 in Google with no site index?

Hi

I'm investigating a client's competitors who mainly use a hosting service. Two of these clients are using code that should get them banned and one has no pages indexed in Google and yet has over a 1,000 back links and ranks #5 in google. The other one has even more spammy code and less back links but ranks the same. The client claims their hosting company is using dishonest means to keep the rank high in their companies.

I checked the code of both sites and can't see how they do this. Anyone know?

if they're ranking #5 presumably they have at least one page in the index.

Google might be 'digesting' the content still - and not showing it when searching using 'site:'

I'd check back in a few weeks to see if the other pages show up - then file a spam report if you think it's appropriate. Not too much else you can do...
