ok, I admit it: I typed "get spidered quickly google" in Google. A common suggestion is to open an AdSense account and this will cause google to come to your site. I presume this is true but do they come and spider your site? Or is it just a visit from google for the purpose of the ads programme?

Don't open an account to get spidered. Those are two separate things.

Instead, build links to your site. Get in the Yahoo directory. Get in any directory. Just get somewhere that is spidered by Google. Then wait. Actually, don't wait. Build more and more and more links to your site. You will then be spidered AND ranked well in SERPS (search engine results pages).

It can take as little as one good-quality link from another site to get yours spidered, but usually you will need a few. When your site first gets spidered depends on how often Google is spidering the sites linking to you, but how frequently you get spidered after that will depend on its inbound links.

I recently launched a new site and it has yet to pick up a significant number of links. It came as a shock to realise how infrequently the Googlebot is coming to visit it because of this.

I registered a new domain and stuck 15 pages up, added one link from one of my, PR4 only, sites, within 5 days the site was in the index, within a couple more all the internal pages were also listed.

Never submitted, no adsense etc!

As another data point, I just launched a site this week. I got a link from another site immediately without submitting anything to Google or advertising or anything else.

Within 24 hours, Googlebot was knocking on the home page. Within 72 hours, I was in the index.

Sure, it was just the home page, which is not terribly helpful, but the other pages will probably be spidered in the coming weeks.
