Back in Google

We've been scratching our heads for months trying to figure out why we dropped out of the search results. We were never banned per se, but we went from page 1 to page 8 or so, effectively rendering us invisible.

Many thanks to the person who posted the link to Copyscape. I tried it, and sure enough I found a ton of duplicate content out there. It was primarily from distributors who "borrowed" our product descriptions and pasted them into their web sites. After laboriously re-writing many pages, lo and behold we're back on page 1.

I just checked it again (1 hour after typing the above) and we're back to our old position. Well, it was fun while it lasted! So what can account for this? I checked a few other sites (google.de, etc.) and the results are the same.

I see one site shows on and off on google. 5 minutes the site is there, 5 minutes later not in the index.

Does this predict something being happening soon? or is it penalized?

Lou, check the different datacenters. Are you still in a good position on any of them? Or did they all drop away?

the sympton i see is
the site changes its position on google so frequently, every 10-20 minutes

is it because using different datacenter all the time?

dazzlindonna, I looked at the Google Knowledgebase FAQ. Do I find the different data centers using www2.google.com, www3.google.com? If so, those URLs all seem to point to www.google.com. If not, please let me know how to do this. Thanks.

I do see the first 3 listings on google, take turns to disappear from google.com

I see one site diappear for a few days and now it's back
Now my site disappear but sometimes comes back ....

I searched WebmasterWorld and it seems like a "google dance" sympton...

it's in the index.

but search one google.com. it is not (i did ping google.com = [216.239.57.99)...] in the index at all.

Why?
