I have a site of about 120 industry related content pages and a forum of over 1200 pages. My site does really well in my country's Google search and the pages have PR3- PR5.
I have recently added some new pages on the subject of widgets to my site. They rank pretty ok in Google. But when I put these same pages on my new domain, the widgets pages are way way down the Google serps.
The mere fact that the pages are published on my existing large site gives them a very significant advantage in Google.
What would you do? Publish the pages on my existing site or try to build popularity on my new (way more relevant) domain name?
I have linked to my new widgets domain from my existing site which results in some traffic on my new domain, but pagerank and serpwise the new domain is still a bad performer.
It is so easy just to publish the pages on my old site, but that site is becoming to errr 'broad'. I'd like to separate topics over different domains a bit, but that seems difficult, especially with a popular topic like widgets.
What would you do? Crowd my old site with a large variety of industry-related topics or try to build and market a new domain? I would love to have two domains that perform well, because it just feels safer. I get 75% of my traffic from Google, so it feels best to have multiple domains in there as a way of errr.. 'risk management'.
