when can I conclude test

when can you conclude changes worked or didn't

I've not been much of a tester - when it comes to changing specific things about / on pages and seeing the affect on Serps.

I am wondering. If I change something about a page. Google spiders it and shows my changes on it's cached page. Am I to assume my changes are factored into the SERPs. IE that their impact (or lack of it) is demonstrated? Or is it not that simple?

Any thoughts / experience anyone
