TIA
They come back - merely by following the links to your site from other sites, Googlebot will find you again.
If you say you are listed in the index, then your temporary departure from the internet probably wasn't even noticed by Google, and the dance that you refer to hasn't really existed for some time now. As Googleguy himself reported, Google is visiting and updating more or less without a break now - the rate for your site will depend on ho well-linked it is from other sites.
There's no need to try to tell the Googlebot, and it wil find your new pages, given time. A new site that I put up recently took three weeks to get its home page into the index, and another 3 weeks to get the rest of the site indexed. A more well-established site of mine has a large number of pages visited several times a week.
Content - that's what'll attract and retain visits. Rather than reply to this, put a new page up instead - it'll do more good <smile>
