Wondering if anyone has had this happen before... the root URL of one of my domains has dropped completely out of google... I have two domain names that point at the same website via "A" record in dns. Never had this problem before, but I can't even search for my domain name and get a return now. This isn't a mirror site or anything like that, just two different domains that point to the same place via dns...

Did I do something wrong?

Vulcan315,

Have you linked both sites to each other? For what you say it seems that both sites share the same content. If that's the case it doesn't matter that the domain names are different. Basically you have triggered a duplicate content filter.

Is that the case? Do both sites have exactely the same content?

Actually, both URLs are on the same IP address. I edited the DNS "A" record to point both to the same location. For whatever reason, when I search one URL (actually the one I wanted spidered), nothing comes back at all...not even with I search for the url.com . The other one does, but it's not the one I prefer. Also, I lost major SE ranking when this happened.

I actually have the .net, .org, and .com of my business name, as well as the old URL (which I don't really care about, since it's not my branded name).

How do I fix this? I registered the domains to protect my business name, but now I seem to have caused another problem by doing so.

...also, I guess my real question is, how do I get the preferred URL back in the index, and what do I do with the other URLs that are point to the same IP?

Thanks,
Dave
