Content duplication

when does it matter?

I've been struggling for months now to figure out why Google no longer includes my database-driven information pages in its index. All of a sudden it hit me that the change in Google's treatment of my site occurred at about the same time as when I added a means of providing feedback to each of my pages. There is a little introductory blurb right above the form on each page:

I welcome comments about my plant portraits; sometimes, my plants may be misnamed, or the information may not reflect the plant's habit in your own garden. For the benefit of other visitors to these pages, I will list any relevant comments you leave, and if appropriate, I will update my page to correct mis-information. If you have a comment about the website as a whole, please leave it in my guestbook.

For some pages, this blurb is comparable in size to the text content of the rest of the page (although there are always unique photos on each page). Do you think it is possible that this duplicated content makes Google reject my pages from the index?

that isn't a problem. It is seen as part of the template. However, it would be in your best interest, to put that in say - an iframe...

Thanks for the suggestion - I guess it's time for me to read up on iframes :-)

In addition to Fathoms post also check:-

[webmasterworld.com...]

Very useful when auto-resizing an iframe.

Are there any significant browsers that have problems with iframes?

All primary ones work fine... older ones & a few extremely small audience ones do not support... but this is less than 1% of browsing public.
