New pages in Google, do they move up later?

I've noticed that when I create new web pages they are findable in Google within three weeks but are 20+ deep. Assuming that the pages have good title / description metatags good relavance and keyword density etc. Would these rise on their own given time or should I begin more SEO type work on them immediately?

Thanks
John

Wait for the next indexing round when they apply PR and other metrics. Right now they only got these pages in the index without any weight.

from my experience - yes - it can take a while for new pages to rank well after initially showing up in the index.

I'd give them a month or so before doing any tweaks.

its always the right time to be adding more inbound links / anchor text though... (onsite and offsite)

Thanks much for the replys. I didn't want to go mucking with a page that seemed like it might do well and then screw it up because it didn't hit right away. I'll leave it and see where it goes in a month or so.

Thanks again
John

or maybe forget about what google does and just build trafic via link exchanges with related sites. google is just becoming a big joke!
