Attaching domain names to file names

I typed in the domain of my website into google, and the third listing comes up for a website which adds my domain name after their URL as follows:

[example.com...]
Kind of an odd search engine promotion. The questions-
1) How did they do this?
2) How far did they take this?
3) Why does Google recognize terms after the .html?
