does google only search for text that is actually displayed on the web page?

Or could I find a website by getting a hit on some text that is not displayed on the website - but is in its HTML file?
Could I even do a search for HTML code text - bring up a website this way.

Am thinking to try and search to see if anyone is pinching my webpage layouts. They may change the text on the website - but the layout will still be the same as mine. Can maybe find this by doing google searching for my HTML code terms - if google can search this. That is my Q.

Especially if I put in some pretty unique HTML code.

Many thanks.

Test actually display?
Do you mean hidden text?

All HTML content is spidered.
If it's not rendered, then that's because of the rendering.

If it's spidered and deliberately not rendered (for example FONT COLOUR WHITE on a BGCOLOR WHITE), then Google reserves the right to ban that page.

Your particular question - does Google index content or layout, well, it's content. Indeed, if you go to Google Cache and look at it, it will offer you the content with no layout at all.
It never offers you the layout with no content...

Taken literally, you're asking if two pages are the same DESPITE their content.
No - they're not.
Google is about content, not layout.

Have you any idea whether

"google can search for my HTML code terms"

For instance - if i was to put in a block of html code determining layout of the web page into google - so the code doesn;t relate to any text on the web page - can google still pull this website out? Or can google only do searches for actual text appearing on the website?
