Hi,

I am about to launch a number of sites over the next few months. The question I have is about when to add links to my existing sites pointing to the new sites in order to get a page rank.

Should I:

a - Put links up on my sites as soon as the domains for my new sites are registered

b - Wait until the new sites are finished and are ready to be launched before adding links?

Thanks for your help.

B

There's no sense linking to a site that doesn't exist -- not for your users' sake or for the SE's sake.

Put up links as soon as you can put up a page other than the registrars page. There are several reasons from a search engine perspective to do this now. It's user-neutral so no harm in it from that perspective.

Well, yeah, I agree with that, steveb ... but that's option C. We were asked to choose between A & B.

If you add links to the new site before it is ready then the search engines will figure that it's not finished (not working correctly) and decide not to list it for that reason. Yahoo only updates it's new listings once a month so it will take you a month to recover.

I always put a robots "no index/no follow" on the site until I'm finished.

It takes less time to get a new finished site online than it does to get the engines to correct an old incomplete indexing of the site.

Linking to new website before finish it, it is a good idea for getting rid of waste time of sand box effect. If you haven't done that, you may waste time. I'm not sure about how long it will take out from sandbox effect? 14 weeks?

Google doesn't like the owner have multiple website. They use LocalRank Algorithms for filtering off on this issue. I heard that they may check out on whois information and C Class IP Address. If you wish to create multiple domain, you may to change whois information and seperate your website to many hosting as much as possible.

Thanks for the responses,

Two more very valid options have been presented for which I am very gratefull. The options as they now stand:

a - Put links up on my sites as soon as the domains for my new sites are registered

b - Wait until the new sites are finished and are ready to be launched before adding links?

c - Put up links as soon as you can put up a page other than the registrars page (steveb)

d - Put a robots "no index/no follow" on the site until I'm finished (Lorel)

makes no sense to put up any links when there is no 110% finished site!
