Hi all people out there.
It's good to be here.

I am facing a slight dilemma here.
I am located in Australia, but for some reason, when I go to Google.com, I am redirected to Google.co.in.
I am supposed to go to Google.com.au

Do you guys know how to solve this problem?
Is this being written in the registry or something?

Thank you. Really much appreciated.

Regards,

hehehehe classic Google!

try installing google's toolbar. When the full version is installed, in the options (left of the tool bar) select .com.au as your default.

Although I'm hardly qualified to do so, welcome to WebmasterWorld, Woody.

It looks to me like Google's IP address to geo-location identification database thinks that your (ISP's) IP address/es are allocated to an Indian ISP.

I remember reading somewhere (probably at WebmasterWorld only) that Google uses a 3rd party solution for this. Whether they use inhouse or outsourced technology, it should be in their interest to rectify this problem. I suggest you e-mail google with your problem and your IP address - may be they will update their database and fix your problem in the process.

I am also in Australia but my IP address usually does not resolve to any country, so it is presumed to be in California. Of course.

Suits me, as I need to see ads targeted to the US, not Oz.

I think a whole bunch of IP addresses given recently to Australia have not been recorded properly.

Maybe Google is doing so intentionally. It's setup a large R&D facility in India and maybe they're using users in Australia as guinea pigs for some experimentation :)
