Considering that Blooger is part of Google, can I assume that blogs are indexed pretty fast and pretty regularly?

Can I start a blog and use it to drive some traffic or increase my SER for my main publisher site?

If this works, it could be a pretty inetersting area of testing.

let me know what u think

thanks

Appearing on (Deja) GoogleGroups dosen't matter, and same applies to posting on bulletin boards.

IMHO it's worth testing if you don't have anything else to do..

I don't think it would help.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading somwhere at Blogger that Google doesn't favor Blogger in its search engine algorithm.

If you see a blog with high PR and lots of traffic, it's because it has a lot of inbound links, mostly from other blogs. It's not because it's a Blogger blog, or even because it's a blog at all.

did they change the comments recently? It looks like they are redirecting URL's instead of going straight out.

Links created in Blogger comments automatically become redirected links that don't pass PageRank. This is explained somewhere on the Blogger site.

Nope. You need the same prerequisites just like with any other site.

It might also be noted that although Google doesn't FAVOR blogs, neither does it DISFAVOR them. A blog is no more nor no less important than any other website. But because blogs tend to link a lot, and from the homepage and every other page, they have a disproportionate impact on the search engine rankings which are based heavily on links.

(I should add that this is all an educated guess, I have no inside knowledge.)

That's what I was thinking.

of one, a good blog will get a lot of inbound links.

of two, I can then use the blog to link heavilly towards another page.

Can that help in the SER of the other page

Blogs get indexed very fast. New posts on mine get indexed within 2-3 days. I get a lot of traffic to the blog for some odd search terms. I suggest starting one, getting in all the blog directories, and watch the traffic you get.

As I said before, a blog is the same as any other site.

> of one, a good blog will get a lot of inbound links.

Holds true for any type of site.

> of two, I can then use the blog to link heavilly towards another page.

Just like with any other site.

> Blogs get indexed very fast.

How fast a site is indexed doesn't depend on its type. It's inbound links, PR etc. But definitely not whether it's a blog.

If blogs seem to be favored this is due to various reasons:

They link to their 'competitors'.
They get links from their 'competitors'.

Plus some other reasons, but not because they're a blog.

what exactly do you mean by redirected links?

I write the anchor tags myself in my blog entries, and they appear unaltered in the html of the blog.

Links dropped in comments.
