Do spiders read advertisements?

I am developing a web site for a small client and would like that site to be indexed by the Google robot. If the client places a banner advertisement on a page already listed by Google, and that advertisement contains a link back to our home page, will that link be treated just like any other link by Google?

As long as its normal link you should be fine.

Just check that banner page does not contain nofollow tag:
<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX, nofollow">

I should say that spiders only read ads if they are about flys, bugs, or moths. Of course, they also follow prices for silk. :)

Yes, they read ads. (Even within javascript ads these days, if they are in plain HTML.)

my adsense alternative ads are indexed and they do not have any links except from Adsense javascript codes.
