Commented out image link passing PR?

So I'm checking out the PR of a competitor, and then view its backlinks (which I know aren't entirely accurate) and it has mainly backlinks from one large blog/article type site.

But there are no links to it on the page.

So I view source on them and realize it is on the page, but its commented out with a <!-- and --> tag.

Google lists them as backlinks and therefore (by my assumption) passes PR, but still, it does not seem to be a legitimate link.

Anyone?

I guess the link was counted in the past and Google show you an old link. I often see backlinks that has been removed a while ago.
