Last saturday, my dedicated machine went down due a crash of my database harddisk, on monday i went to the datacenter and fixed the problem. Since then i am out of the rankings for every search :(
Google is stilling showing results for site:www.example.com , but doesn't show descriptions.
Can anyone tell me what to do, or how long i should wait to undertake any action (i.e. resubmitting?)

You should be back in their soon, just allow them to come back and spider your site. Don't worry about it because you will get in the search engines soon and get your ranking back.

Minor Update: it took about 20 days to come back in the rankings, for some searches i am still not listed but most of my keywords rank the same or even better!

Google is so damaged!

Other people may not share this opinion and I respect their views.

But I see things from my optic. And my own things and business!

Google has been erasing my pages of 2004 and some of 2003 for the last month. Few have returned from the dead!

5 domain names are original content websites, no ads, no products, no spam, no copies. And Google erases them

Google's Feats :

One of my websites was completely erased. It had many pages for more than six months.

then it is appearing now ( August 23 of 2004 ) as :

( Index of the Home Page : )

www.MyMissingDomain.com

www.MyMissingDomain.com coming soon! This page is parked FREE at GoDaddy.com!

Is that Quality of Information? The Website has had 40 pages for more than six months!

Hundreds of pages that I erased many months ago appear as current.

And I have been steadily losing the Good Pages of 2004 and some of 2003.

Few new pages ( of 2004 ) have been reindexed after the catastrophe.

Even some Home Pages have been erased ( work of 2004 )

It can happen to more people than me!

Yahoo and MSN are steadily indexing my sites, even in these last days.

The searches that I make in Google ( for some special topics ) return a lot of commercial spam unrelated to the searches. Google is duped with false keywords.

Wow, that's some rant though I think you should give Google a call and yell at them (I've got the number if you want?) because your ranting does not really help other webmasters such as the one above to improve his/her situation.

My advice for future server downtime problems would be to increase your inbound links. The faster Google finds you (or re-finds you) the faster you show up in the results again. Get 1-5 links from highly visited sites (you can use Alexa to check this) and generally if you are removed one day you can be back on the next day. This isn't just my opinion, I've done this several times for clients - I point my major sites at there's if their hosting company has had some serious downtime and they get back on Google within 24-48 hours.

There is a theory that if you have too much downtime Google thinks you have sold the domain and removes all PR and backlinks for a length of time but I don't particularly agree with that.

That's if it's down for a long time, not 24 to 48 hours.

Strange Behaviour of Google :

Two of my commecial sites that Google killed have resurrected from the dead. ( after one month in purgatory! )

However two Original Content Websites continue in their tombs. These sites have no products, ads, spam, mod-rewrite, no copies from others, and no duplication.

This contradicts the theory that Google punishes commerce and affiliates and that it gives awards to Original Content.

People should be aware that these things happen in Google. That a site is killed and reappears one month later. Or that an original content website is killed and doesn't reappear again.
