Keyword order relevant?

Is the order of keywords now relevant?

Hello,

I run a small site for an orchestra. It is quite astonishing that the site is listed #1 for the search town orchestra.
However it is only #31 for orchestra town.
Is the order of the keywords relevant for Google?
I thought it does not matter.

Could someone clarify this?
Thanks in advance

The order of the keywords are relevant to keyword ranking, but is only a small part of it.

If all other ranking factors are equal, pages with the exact phrase will always come up first, then pages containing the words in the phrase. At least that's the way it appears to work.

You can pick most any phrase on one of your pages and do a search for it. In general, the pages containing that exact phrase will come up first. If you scramble the words the pages will probably still come up (if they're in the top 1000), but they'll rank lower.
