A index page of a site of mine that was first page for many terms has just vanished. Looks like all the other pages are indexed. I need to do some damage limitation immediately.

So shall I move the index page to a new page and redirect the old one to that and then start getting some links?

Anyone done this with success?

Just wait it out. I've this happen a few times...as long as your site is clean, google should pick it back up soon.

Another thing I wish google would do is have paid site reviews for situations like this. The cost of charging for this would easily outweigh the cost of teh employees. I do not paying $500 for what would be 10 mins work.

Can you give me a time frame on that?

It's been how long since your home page vasinshed?

If rest of the pages of your sites are in index then i think you need not worry. Just wait for some time and your home page should be back.

I am worried that it will happen like the site in my profile. First of all the index page disappeared and then over the next month all the links went. Now ( 5 months later) it is a pr0 but the backlinks are showing.

This feels similar. My index page was out of the index as of yesterday. Can you let me know how long you waited? A few days or a few months?

All depends on whether you get spidered daily or not.

About a year ago, I waited about 5 weeks for an index page to return. On another site this year, I only waited about 4 days.

My sites get spidered daily. So I am going to sit it out and look for googlebot for a few days. After that I am just going to move on. Pain in the ass if so cause this site is #1 on yahoo and it means me building another site just for google with new content.

Crush i am sure that you will not have to wait for long. Hopefully your site should be back in 2 weeks. You keep your link building going.
Such thing has been happening with a lots of site especilly with the big sites. Even one of my site had lost its home page and some internal pages for a while.

several times now I've had index pages disappear for a while. I used Google's submit URL form and the pages reappeared in a day or so...

Have you at any time used the Google remove url tool for this domain?

Crush,
I searched google for a sentence from your profile site:
"The shortage of hotel rooms in Barcelona has created a new market for many". It had 20 matches. Do a search with text from that other site. Maybe google has flagged it for dupe content. Maybe it's just a glitch of course, just suggesting

Crush, regarding your profile site - you seem to have at least two identical sites on different domains, don't you? This may be giving you a duplicate content issue on one of those sites at least. If you've done this elsewhere, the same would apply.

yes I have 2 identical site but look at the robots.txt on the second one. The second site was out up 1 month ago when the other one did not come back. The site in question now is unique. That is interesting about the remove url. Does that work? If so that is dumb. I am going to remove all my competition from the index ;)

Well, I don't know if the site in your profile has a penalty or not, but there are pages on other sites that link to it, and some of the key phrases you have there bring up the other (duplicate) site, which can't be doing you much good, I imagine. I would be inclined to remove one of them altogether - the one in your profile looks a likely candidate from what I see.
