Sorry if there has been a posting about this before, I've done a quick search and will be more than happy if someone simply points me the right direction.
My site is ranking pretty poorly in SEPRS for reasons I am not to clear on (I am pulling my hair out). My site has some very good back links, I link to some good authority sites and my PR has fluctuated from PR5 to 4 over the past year.
My site has also been listed on DMOZ for quite some months, and consequently been listed in the google directory. I noticed in the google directory that all sites are ranked by PR - But my site seems not to have one and is all lonely at the bottom! The only difference is that all other sites in the direcotry have a "/" at the end of the URL, yet mine has not.
Because of this I looked at the source of the DMOZ directory and again my site is listed with no terminating "/"?!?
Luckily I have the email address for my catergory editor for DMOZ who is very quick and has promised me they have added the slash, but this does not show in source yet!
I feel my site really does belong in the elite for my search term - Content is added daily, it is light, simple and very relevant.
Another issue I have is killing me! Lets say my targeted keyword is "widgets", with this I am ranking way back on page 20, out of 8,000 result. YET when i use the search term "beer" I rank 3rd on page 1 out of 230,000 results, which is not a keyword relevant to my site, but due to my sites name has almost the exact same density and anchor text as "widgets", infact the two words almost always appear together on my site. Why would one word perform excellently and generate me no traffic becuse or irrelivancy, whilst the other one is pants on SERPS but needed for traffic?
Advice? Mucho Thanko!
I get a lot of hits for people looking for photographers because I have a photgraphers web site in my portfolio. Go figure. Run a keyword analyzer to make sure it comes up with the keyword phrasing you want.
